I have a chicken who keeps knocking on the back door.

She is consistent enough in her knocking that I am beginning to wonder if she believes I’m going to let her in

.Some days, she finds her way into the studio and hides under stacks of paperwork.

Or settles her fat self on a nest of red-dog and shale. There is no stopping her.

We have to be sure all the doors are closed securely or she will push her way in and cause all kinds of trouble.

The Orpington Outlier

The idea of a chicken indoors is more attractive than the reality of a chicken indoors.

Shooing her off the porch has become a many-times-a-day thing. I have even taken to spraying her with the hose to try to break the habit.

She’s an outlier in the greater flock. I have ruled out egg laying as her reason. She seems content to lay her eggs in the traditional places.

Does she like our company? Or is she more of an explorer? As I contemplate chicken personalities, I am reminded of something.
