That was beautiful to listen to Rachel! I love your writing! I am a beginner at mosaic and was so scared to participate in the beehive project but I did so anyway… trying to ignore my inner critic . I’ve taken your classes on line and am a member of Rachel Davies mosaic group. All of these things have helped me grow. Thank you for letting a beginner into your castle / ruins . It’s an honor to be part of it. 🌻

The longer I work in this art form, the more thrilling messages like these are to me. Treasure your beginning time, Maureen.

The need to build, to grow,

is like the energy hiding in a tiny seed..

Irrepressible.

As a mother, I hear your wish to swaddle The Ruins, and I hear your knowing that it isn’t possible.

“Joy and woe are woven fine…”

I love, love, love you.

A clothing for the soul divine. You taught me that one. Thank you, Mama.

Rachel, it's wonderful that you're a builder "only." It takes more guts, empathy, power, and - yes - love, to be a builder than a critic. Please just keep on being that builder so the rest of us can revel in your creations.

I enjoyed listening to your piece about moats and castles again. If you do end up over my way I would like to take you to Durham Cathedral which is my favourite cathedral ever, on a hill encircled by a ribbon of river below. Not a castle but similar in a way.

sounds like a date. Durham is one of our family names and I love a grand cathedral.

Good morning Rachel. I am getting caught up on your newsletters this morning. Of course I read the original one about the tree! I cannot imagine your terror and relief of what could have been so much worse. Gratefulness to the Ruins Angels, I would say! I do love your readings and writings...and so grateful to be a small part of The Ruins...and to have participated in creating a hive! heart...heart...renee

I love Castles also. My first ancestors (J J E Gibson) to arrive in the USA, through a few moves came and settled in Center Texas. He was

Commissioned to build a court house and his design was a castle similar to those they left behind in Ireland. (Not ours) It has a widows walk, and chimneys with ‘crowns’ for lack of correct description. I love your term “.. come from coal..”. I can say “..we came from clay..”

I loved your story voice and the thoughts woven along the way like a fine tapestry. Good job, and more to come I hope.

We come from clay has quite a ring to it. Love that. And thank you for sharing that bit about your castle building ancestors.

I love listening to your musings. It is music to my ears. They remind me that “Musick has Charms to sooth a savage Breast, To soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak”.. My moat is the lava carved road to my castle. In heavy rains it is literally shooting rapids.. only to dry out to grander canyons and scree. It is a lava strewn, little better than jeep trail. I performed this test before buying the castle grounds. I laid down in the middle of the road and stretched out. Did I get up because I had to or, I wanted to? I am happy to say, it passed with flying colors and possible nap. Because I wanted to.

Leslie, are you writing? I think you should be. I love that a brain like yours is enjoying my words so much. Such a compliment.

Oh, and thank you for the delicious chocolate! I ate it immediately.
